Yes, let's support our troops. That is the message I get. But what am I actually supposed to do? I got an email titled "support our troops" telling me a patriotic story and it played "God bless America" as you read it, I was told to support our troops by forwarding it to ten people I know and returning it to the person that sent it to me. I wondered if the troops appreciate that sacrifice. Actually I still haven't figured out how that will help support them. So I decided to look for other ways besides the Internet. Seems like in order to support our troops what I really need to do is put a yellow ribbon on my 2005 SUV and go to the mall. Unfortunately I don't have a SUV of any model. And I still don't know how that helps the troops. Surely there is something better we could be doing. I have heard some radicals say that if our country is at war we should be prepared to make sacrifices, but that idea fortunately wasn't very popular. I think we can give Haliburton CEO's some more tax cuts. I am sure the troops will be moved to tears when they hear that.

Donate money or items to Operation Gratitude, find out about a local FRG (family readiness group) buy whatever they are selling (the money goes to help the families that are left behind as well as buying care packages and funding homecoming parties) -- don't buy yellow ribbon magnets from a store because the money does not go to the troops -- try to buy one from an FRG, find out who in your community or church, or whatever, is deployed, and send a care package, have your children (if you have any) draw a picture or you yourself write a letter -- and mail it to them, donate a phone card, or find out if there are any spouses left behind in your neighborhood, community, church, etc. and find out if you can help them by cooking, cleaning, babysitting, or just being a shoulder to cry on. There are plenty of needs.
